What is a copper hammered tandoor? A copper hammered tandoor is a tandoor whose outer body is made of copper sheet that is hammered by hand, which leaves a pattern of small dimples that catch the light. Inside it has the same clay tandoor chamber as any other tandoor, so it cooks the same way. It is chosen for how it looks, mainly in open kitchens, live counters, buffet stations and fine-dining restaurants.

Why Restaurants Choose a Copper Hammered Tandoor

Forno Sethi copper hammered tandoor for live kitchens A Centre-Piece for Guests – The warm copper colour and hammered pattern make the tandoor part of your restaurant’s look, not just a cooking tool.

Hand-Crafted Finish – The hammered surface is shaped by hand, so each tandoor looks rich and slightly different.

Real Clay Tandoor Inside – The copper is the outer body. Inside is the same clay chamber, so you do not give up taste or heat for the look.

Made to Your Size – We build to your counter and your volume, instead of fitting a standard size into your layout.

Pick Your Fuel – Charcoal for smoky taste, gas (LPG or PNG) for quick start and easy control, or hybrid for both.

Repair and Spares – Clay repair and spare parts are available, so a worn chamber does not mean a new tandoor.

Copper or SS: Which Body Should You Choose? Copper, Mirror SS and Rose Gold Compared

Short answer: Choose copper if the look is the priority and guests will see the tandoor. Choose mirror finish SS for a bright, easy-care body. Choose rose gold PVD if you want a copper-like colour with the easy care of SS. The clay chamber and the cooking are the same in all three.

Fuel and Set-Up for a Copper Tandoor Charcoal, Gas or Hybrid

Short answer: Gas (LPG or PNG) is the common choice for live counters because it starts quickly and is easy to control. Charcoal gives the smoky taste but needs strong ventilation. Hybrid lets you use either.

  • Gas (LPG or PNG)
  • Hybrid

In an open kitchen, plan a hood, chimney or exhaust so heat and fumes leave the dining area, since charcoal makes carbon monoxide. Keep cloth and decoration away from the tandoor mouth. Tell us which gas you will use, because the burner nozzle differs for LPG and PNG. More on the gas tandoor.

Mainly for the look. The warm, hand-crafted copper makes the tandoor a centre-piece at open kitchens, live counters and fine-dining restaurants.

Copper gives a warm, rich look but darkens with heat and needs polishing from time to time. Mirror finish SS is bright and easy to wipe clean. Rose gold PVD gives a copper-like colour in SS. Choose by the look you want and how much care you want to give.

Yes. Copper naturally darkens with heat and time. You can polish it to bring back the shine, or let it age.

Let it cool fully, then wipe it with a soft cloth. Use a copper polish when you want the shine back, and avoid harsh scrubbers that scratch the surface.
