What is a clay tandoor? A clay tandoor is a tandoor whose cooking chamber is a clay pot. The clay holds heat and spreads it evenly, so naan bakes on the hot wall and tikka and kebab cook on skewers in the classic tandoor way. The clay pot sits inside an outer body, round or square, with insulation around it. The clay pot is always round, and we make it in the size you need.

Why a Tandoor Is Made of Clay

Forno Sethi clay tandoor with round clay pot Steady Heat – Clay holds heat well, so the tandoor stays hot through a long service even as you load and unload.

Even All-Round Heat – The round clay wall gives the same heat on every side, which is why naan sticks and bakes evenly and tikka cooks all around.

Real Tandoor Taste – The clay gives the baked, slightly smoky character that a metal chamber cannot copy.

Repairable – A worn clay chamber can be repaired, and spare parts are available, so you do not have to replace the whole tandoor.

Works With Any Fuel – The same clay pot is used with charcoal, gas (LPG or PNG) or hybrid.

Round or Square Outer Body? Same Clay Pot Inside Either Way

Short answer: The clay pot inside is round in every size. A round outer body follows the pot closely. A square outer body is built around the same pot with more packing and insulation, so the outside is bigger while the cooking size inside stays the same.

How to Choose a Commercial Clay Tandoor Size Five Things to Check

Short answer: Choose by your busiest hour, your menu and your space, not by the size name alone. Bigger tandoors cook more at once but need more room, more ventilation and are heavier to move.

  1. Peak-hour load. How many naan, rotis or skewers do you need at once in your busiest hour?
  2. Menu. A naan-heavy menu and a kebab-heavy menu use the tandoor differently.
  3. Space. Check the floor or counter space for the outer body, and keep working room around it.
  4. Ventilation and fuel. Plan a chimney or exhaust, and decide charcoal or gas.
  5. Access. Check the doorway, stairs or lift, because a bigger tandoor is heavy.

How much a tandoor cooks depends on the food, the cook and the workflow. Share your menu and busiest hour on WhatsApp and we suggest a size.

Fuel for a Clay Tandoor Charcoal, Gas or Hybrid

Short answer: Choose charcoal for smoky taste, gas (LPG or PNG) for quick start and easy control, or hybrid for both. The clay pot is the same for all.

  • Charcoal
  • Gas (LPG or PNG)
  • Hybrid

For gas, a burner kit and baffle plate are fitted, and the nozzle is chosen for LPG or PNG. Read more on the gas tandoor. Charcoal makes carbon monoxide, so plan good ventilation.

Before You Order: What to Share With Us So We Quote the Right Tandoor

Short answer: Send us the size or space you have, your fuel choice, your menu and busiest hour, and your city and pin code. With these we can suggest the right tandoor and quote the freight.

  • Size or space available
  • Round or square outer body
  • SS or MS
  • Charcoal or gas (LPG / PNG)
  • Menu and busiest hour
  • City and pin code

Also tell us if the tandoor stands free or sits in a counter, and about doorway width, stairs or lift at the delivery site, since a larger tandoor is heavy. Have a photo of your kitchen or a reference tandoor? Send it on WhatsApp.

Yes. The clay pot inside is round in every size and in every outer body. Only the outer body changes, round or square.

The clay pot inside is the same round design. A round outer body follows the pot closely. A square outer body is built around the pot with more packing and insulation, so the outside is bigger while the inner cooking size stays the same.

Because the square outer body leaves extra space around the round clay pot, which is filled with packing and insulation. The inner clay size does not change.

Heat it slowly over a few days in stages, with a small low heat first, a medium heat next and working heat last, letting it cool naturally in between. See our curing guide.

Fine hairline cracks can appear as clay heats and cools and are usually harmless. Wide or deep cracks, or clay coming off, are not normal and need repair. Never pour water into a hot tandoor.
